Flying off the water and sailing into the sky.
To take off in a four engined flying boat from Sydney Harbour, one of the most beautiful harbours in the world, then fly to and holiday on Lord Howe Island, perhaps one of the most beautiful islands in the world, must rate as one of the most romantic journeys a person could take! The Ansett Airline that operated the route was the longest running big boat service in the world and also, sadly, the last.
This is the story of that service and the occurrence that led to its existence and a collection of other aviation events, happenings and tragedies as detailed and described by the author and island resident Peter Phillipps.
